Who we are
Atomic started in 2016 as a small group of Kiwi players who were tired of "best casino" lists that read like they'd been copied off a press release. None of us could find a straight answer to the only questions that actually mattered — will this site pay me out, how long does it take, and can I deposit in New Zealand dollars without getting stung on conversion? So we opened accounts, funded them with our own money, and started keeping notes. Ten years on, those notes have become the reviews you're reading now.
Today we're a compact editorial team based in Aotearoa, covering online casinos, pokies, sports betting and crypto gambling for a New Zealand audience. We're players first and writers second, which is exactly the way round we think it should be.
Our mission
Our job is to save you the expensive, slow and occasionally infuriating work of finding out for yourself which offshore gambling sites are worth your time. We do the boring parts — reading the wagering terms line by line, requesting a withdrawal and watching the clock, checking whether a licence is real — and we report back plainly. If a site is good, we'll tell you why. If it's not, it doesn't make the list.
Editorial independence
Here's the part most sites are cagey about, so we'll be direct. Running a site like this costs money, and it is funded through commercial partnerships with some of the operators we write about. That's normal for a comparison site — but it is walled off entirely from our editorial decisions.
What that means in practice: no operator can buy a higher ranking, a better rating, or a place on our lists. Placement is earned on the things we actually test — payout speed, NZD banking, the fairness of the bonus terms, the range of games and the quality of support. A commercial relationship doesn't move a site up a single position, and having no relationship with us doesn't keep a good site off. Our rankings and our blacklist are set by the editorial team on the evidence, full stop. If the two ever pulled in different directions, the review wins — that's the whole point of being independent.
Our editorial standards
- We test with real money. Every site we recommend has had a real account, a real deposit and a real withdrawal put through it — we don't rate sites we haven't used.
- We read the fine print. Wagering requirements, game weightings, maximum-bet-while-bonus-active clauses and withdrawal caps all get read before we write a word.
- We date everything. Offers and terms change, so every review carries a "last updated" date and we re-check the sites we list on a rolling schedule.
- We keep responsible-gambling front and centre. This is entertainment, not income, and we say so on every page.
- We correct mistakes. If we get something wrong, tell us and we'll fix it and note the change.
